God’s Will for the Church Regarding those in Authority

authority2

“First of all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men, For kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that [outwardly] we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life [and inwardly] a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way. For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior, Who wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the [divine] Truth. For there [is only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself as a ransom for all [people, a fact that was] attested to at the right and proper time.” ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:1-6‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬‬‬
As I read this scripture, it is amazing to see how the Body of Christ has allowed the US Political System cause so much division among us. According to the above passage, regardless of the person in authority, as believers of Jesus the Christ, it is our responsibility to pray for them.
We must first petition God that His will for them will prevail; not our wills for death threats, hatred, or disaster for their families. We should pray that they have an intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
Secondly, we are called to intercede on their behalf as they make decisions to lead, so that our existence on this earth may be a peaceable one.
Thirdly, we are told to have an attitude of Thanksgiving! The above scripture says, “thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men, For kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility…” Thanksgiving should not be offered for just “your” political persuasions!
Why should we be thankful for all? Well according to Romans 13: 1 – 5, God put them there:
“Let every person be loyally subject to the governing (civil) authorities. For there is no authority except from God [by His permission, His sanction], and those that exist do so by God’s appointment. [Prov. 8:15.] Therefore he who resists and sets himself up against the authorities resists what God has appointed and arranged [in divine order]. And those who resist will bring down judgment upon themselves [receiving the penalty due them]. For civil authorities are not a terror to [people of] good conduct, but to [those of] bad behavior. Would you have no dread of him who is in authority? Then do what is right and you will receive his approval and commendation. For he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, [you should dread him and] be afraid, for he does not bear and wear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant to execute His wrath (punishment, vengeance) on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God’s wrath and escape punishment, but also as a matter of principle and for the sake of conscience.”
Romans‬ ‭13:1-5‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬

“For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him.”
Colossians‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬

Could this division be a plot of Satan? The Lord declares that the world will know we are His disciples by our LOVE for one another:
“I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another. By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].”
‭‭John‬ ‭13:34-35‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬‬‬

Let us stop allowing the actions, opinions, and thoughts of men cause hatred and division among the Body of Christ. Read what the Word of God (The Bible) says about every situation before we cast judgement. Therefore, if you, as a Believer in the Lord Jesus, have been hating, complaining, disrespecting, speaking ill-will, or anything else other than praying for those in authority; it is time to REPENT. No political party or persuasion will ever be able to fix our land, nor the world. The victory is through the hands of God!
“If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭AMPC‬‬‬‬‬‬
